New use for closed public swimming pools

The government has found new use for two of the four public swimming pools which were closed for over five years.

A private operator will use the Bukit Merah Swimming Complex as an aquatic and fitness centre.

And the Jurong Town Swimming Complex will be converted into hard courts to provide more playing spaces for residents in the area.

It can be used for activities like basketball and futsal.

The other two remaining close swimming complexes at Pandan Gardens and Yan Kit will revert to the State.

Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan gave this update in a written reply to a question for oral answer.

He said the Singapore Sports Council initiated a Request for Proposal (RFP) in April last year for the four closed swimming pools.
